What's New?
(October 1999)
Site
News - As you can see again, I'm late with this
months "What's New?" and "Editors Ramblings" section. This
reminds me of a quote in the "Third Twenty-Five Years" when Frank
Fenton asked Kathryn Moody in the billing department how things were going.
Her reply, "We can't seem to get any further ahead than two weeks behind".
I think I will make this my motto as well :) Not to make excuses, but I have
been pretty busy lately with the site behind the scenes, and busy in my personal
life. The last couple of weeks I have been working on the FentonFan Auctions.
The software is actually operational and according to people helping me test
the software, seems to be working fairly well. I have been making a list of
people to help test the software in it's final stages. If you would like to
help, just send me some Email. It should be ready for testing within the next
couple of months.
Spring 2000 Supplement - I just posted the Spring 2000 supplement that Sharon Bragg was kind enough to send me a couple of hours ago. Besides the beautiful glass, a couple of noteworthy items. The little girl modeling in pages 4 & 5 of the "Simple Pleasures" section is Ellie Ash, daughter of Danny and Shelley Fenton Ash. Shelley herself modeled for Fenton's trade advertisements in the early 60's, so the tradition continues. To look at Shelley's advertisements, they are featured on Page 130 of the "Third Twenty-Five Years".
Speaking of the "Simple Pleasures" section of the supplement, this finalizes the "Simple Pleasures" article that Sharon and I wrote awhile back. Now you can see all of the items that Fenton is featuring as a low cost start in collecting. For example, the 5365 Kittens and 5251 Bear Cubs run at $9.50 each. All of the other items are reasonably priced as well.
Another
noteworthy item that goes along with the articles concerning the LG Wright auction.
On pages 2 and 7 of the supplement, Fenton shows a few new items created from
moulds purchased at the auction. They are the 6838 OE Square Violet Thistle
Basket, 6483 N1 Small Rooster Box, and the 6883 Q1 Rabbit Egg. I'm sure we will
see more and more items made from LG Wright moulds in the coming months.
QVC Database - I hope to bring you some exciting news about the QVC Database soon. Keep your eyes open here at the site or on the Fenton Chat Board for an announcement. I don't know if anyone noticed, but after the last show on October 10th, I was able to update the database with pictures even before QVC updated their Fenton database. A few weeks ago, I purchased a video card that allows me to capture live TV broadcast images. Actually, I think they are better quality images than what QVC posts, but maybe I'm prejudiced :) From now on, I should be able to update the database in a timely manner with all of the pictures, not just the ones still selling through QVC's web site.
In Closing - Not much else to post for the "What's New?" article this month. I keep hoping that more people will volunteer information rather than the usual people like Sharon who is probably getting tired of me bugging her :) The more you share with the rest of us, the more you will get from my efforts. Hope everyone has a safe and sane Halloween!
