The
QVC Database -
Speaking of QVC, as you have probably noticed, the QVC Database is now online.
When I first started this site, one of my original goals was to create a database
that Fenton collectors could use to help identify pieces in their collection,
or for use as a buying aid for auction purposes. Well after finding the right
software, and working like a slave, it finally happened :) I hope you will find
the database useful. If you would like to start up your own Database for collectors
concerning a particular type of Fenton, just let me know via Email.
Now that the main program is operational, it's fairly easy to start up another
one. All of the data entry, uploading photo's, and other maintenance can be
done directly from your web browser.
Fenton Web Ring - Well I finally was able to put the Fenton webring on the site. What the heck is a Web Ring you ask? Well it's kind of like browsing a mall of nothing but Fenton dealers or collectors. You can select the next person in the ring, or get a listing of the next 5 people, and choose which one you would like to visit. You can even select a random site that will take you wherever the system feels like :) There is a little work involved for people who sign-up for the ring. Once you have Signed-Up, you must copy a bit of HTML code sent to you to your own Home Page. This HTML fragment contains code for the graphics and buttons to link to others in the ring. It's really not too difficult but can be a challenge to those people who have never done any web page design. The same rules apply for the ring as does the listing, you must have a active website, updated regularly, where your main focus is selling Fenton Glass, or have a large selection of Fenton available. And the ring won't be for just dealers either. If you want others to know about your Fenton site as a collector, you can be added to the ring as well.
Other
Plans - I'm still thinking about the Fenton Fanatics
Auction. The main problem is whether or not I want to spend the rest of my freetime
maintaining such an endeavor. So I'm going to ask for volunteer's to help maintain
the main site. Your job would be to help write some of the articles, dig-up
new material, and a few other duties. I would concentrate on the normal site
administration, including the Auctions, Webring, Database, and most of the other
site maintenance. I probably won't get a bunch of volunteers, but it doesn't
hurt to ask. Maybe if the Auction was a hugh success, I could hire you :)
That's about it for this month. As alway's, I appreciate the help of so many
that makes this site a success like Sharon Bragg, Sharon Fenner, Ann Fenton,
Johanna Billings, and others who have donated their time and money.
